Fishing Rocks!
We know that fishing rocks, but what about rockers who fish? Plenty of musicians enjoy a little time on the water. Here’s a look at a few of them.
Let’s start with Jimmy Buffett. So many of his songs are about boats and fishing. You can’t listen to his music without yearning to be out on the water … and that’s where you’ll usually find him.
Roger Daltrey may be best known as the lead singer of legendary rock band The Who. But did you know he also owns a trout farm and has since the early ‘80s? Next time you’re over in England, check out Lakedown Trout Fishery with its four spring-fed lakes.
Rock legend Eric Clapton is an avid fly fisherman and is known to make trips to the Vatnsdalsá River in Iceland to fish for Atlantic salmon, He’s caught a couple that weighed in at 25 pounds or more.
Country star Brad Paisley grew up on the Ohio River and was fishing from a young age. That love for the water of course found its way into his music, including I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song). And he’s used fishing to make a difference, having hosted celebrity fishing tournaments to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Grammy winning singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile has been fishing for years, but she took it a step further in 2020 when she bought a fishing boat during the height of COVID. Carlile, who lives in rural Washington, named the boat Captain Fantastic in honor of Elton John. She and her family spent some time in the San Juan Islands and fish for salmon, sea bass, shrimp and crab.
Then there’s country star Luke Bryan, who’s known for ‘Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day.’ The Georgia star is always up for fishing, and his instagram feed is filled with fishing references, including one from March when he posted a video of an unfortunate incident involving a hook and his thumb. Ouch.
Bluegrass star Billy Strings is another one whose social media posts often reference fishing. And on Earth Day, he shared an important message about cleaning up after yourself (and others) when you’re on the water. So much trash is out there, and it’s harmful to the fish and the environment. Remember, leave only memories.
